Ikpeazu inaugurates work, project evaluation committee

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has expressed his determination to complete all on-going projects especially roads and resuscitation of moribund industries, especially Aba shoe factory in the state.

Ikpeazu stated this in Umuahia while inaugurating its Works and Project Committee headed by the state Commissioner for Works, Hon. Eziuche Ubani, stating that the committee “will oversee and monitor all ongoing projects in the state, especially road infrastructure and to look at some moribund factories/industries in the state and report back to the government on how to go about completing and resuscitating them”.

Represented by his deputy, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu, the governor disclosed further that the committee will “monitor and evaluate the on-going road projects he identified as Ururuka, Aba road, Umuahia, Etitiama Nkporo, Port Harcourt road, Aba, Obikabia, Aba-Owerri road, Aba, Osusu, Eziukwu road and the moribund Aba shoe factory in Aba.

He named other members of the committee to include the state Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu as the Secretary, the Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Aham Uko as member and the Principal Secretary to the governor, Engr Emma Nwabuko as member.

Other members are former adviser to Governor Ikpeazu on Social Investment, Chinenye Nwogu, and the state Commissioner for Finance, Obinna Oriaku.

The committee was given three weeks to submit its findings.

Responding on behalf of other members of the committee, the chairman of the committee, Hon. Eziuche Ubani assured the governor that they would do their best of what is expected of them.

Fielding questions from newsmen later, Hon Ubani said disclosed that the roads were not abandoned but ongoing stating that the governor wants to know what should be done to get the projects completed.

The committee, he said, would be looking at source of funding, bureaucracy among others.
