Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong has told police that he does not want to hear “unknown gunmen” again.
The country is currently experiencing a high level of insecurity, with most criminal activities being blamed on “unknown gunmen.”
Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), visited Plateau on Monday and promised inhabitants of improved surveillance and protection of lives and property in the state.
Inaugurating 50 patrol cars and 200 motorbikes acquired by the governor to strengthen security in his state, the IGP offered the promise.
According to him, the substantial investment made in the acquisition of vehicles and motorbikes will not be wasted.
“You have challenged us by this gesture and I can confidently assure Your Excellency that we shall not fail you as we appreciate that to whom much is given, much more is expected,” he added.
He said: “More police personnel will soon be recruited to boost the manpower of the force while the training of the personnel is also being accorded serious attention.”
He said: “We have also realised that while we consolidate on the peace, the crises merchants are not sleeping as their source of business has been obstructed due to the actions we have put in place to restore stability. Therefore, they are restless and trying various methods to breach the peace.”
