Giuliana Rancic’s Stay In Fashion Police Uncertain
Giuliana Rancic has given a clue suggesting that her days as host of Fashion Police may be over following her controversial comments about Zendaya Coleman’s dreadlocks.
Her fellow host, Kelly Osbourne and Kathy Griffin have already quit the show in the wake of her racist comment that the 18-year-old Disney star’s hair on the Oscars red carpet would smell of “patchouili” or “weed”.
When asked on NBC’s Today show whether she’ll be on board when the show returns in September, she replied: “We’ll see.”
She blamed poor editing for the subsequent backlash and refused to confirm that she would be.
“I made a reference to the hippie culture. I talked about patchouli oil, which is a hippie perfume, and in the editing process some of the gestures I made and some of the things I said were taken out for time,” she said.
“I made peace signs, I said bohemian twice – those were taken out for time. And so when the joke aired, some people were offended by it.
“I find racism reprehensible. I don’t tolerate it at all, nor have I ever. I felt it is important to get that out there.
“The hardest part of all of this [is] that someone could believe that I would have racial undertones in the thing I do. Absolutely not.
“I felt that the joke was not edited in the proper way and that’s something I have to live with.”
Giuliana also told People magazine recently that there were around 50 other people on set at the time and not one of them said anything about the joke when it was heard in the proper context.
She was shocked when she saw Zendaya’s statement, which referred to her comments as “ignorant slurs”.
Giuliana also said she received death threats after the incident;
“People were sending me pictures of the barrel of a gun saying, ‘I’m going to kill your family.’ It was awful.”
Giuliana has been under fire for her rapid weight loss recently. She has however denied having any eating disorder, blaming her skinny frame to the cancer she fought in 2011.
