Former Governor of Niger state, Kure dies at 60 in German hospital

The political landscape of Niger state was on Sunday evening thrown into mourning when the news of the death of third civilian governor of the state, Engineer Abdulkhadir Abdullahi Kure spread like a wide fire.
Former Governor Kure was said to have died at the age of 60 in Germany Sunday afternoon where he was flown to 3 weeks ago for medical attention.
According to the former Chief Press Secretary to the former governor, Muhamud Abdullahi, who confirmed the death, Kure was taken to Germany for kidney related sickness and had been at the hospital for the past three weeks.
Alhaji Mahmud Abdullahi said arrangement was already being made by the family to bring the remains of the former governor to the country for burial.
Born on February 26, 1956, late Governor Kure survived by wife Senator Zaynab Kure, 6 children four boys and two girls.
He was the Director of Engineering Services in the Federal Capital Territory before joining politics in 1998 where he contested the governorship of the state.
Late Governor Kure was a foundation member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and became its Governor in Niger state for two terms between 1999-2011.
After leaving office former governor Kure became a member of the Board of trustees of the party, a position he held until his death.
Late Abdulkhadir Kure was a member of the Senator Ahmed Makarfi faction of the PDP.
A devastated state chairman of the PDP Alhaji Tanko Beji described the incident “as sad” adding that “we cannot query God.”
Tanko Beji said the late Governor had contributed immensely to the socio -political development of Niger state and Nigeria as a whole.
His last political engagement in the state was his meeting with some PDP stakeholders from zone c senatorial district of the state where he assured them that the zone will produce the next governor under the party zoning arrangement.
Among the early callers at his GRA house were the state PDP chairman, Barrister Tanko Beji and other party faithful.
“He has left an indelible mark on the sand of times ,may his soul rest in peace.”
