FG sets up Inter-Ministerial Committee to tackle security issues

Federal Ministry of Science and Technology is partnering the Ministry of Defence by using the platform of Science and technology to meet natural needs particularly in security matters and bridge the technology gaps in country.

This partnership is a measure of the commitment of the present administration to ensure that Nigeria produce what it needs in the country.

Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, minister of Science and Technology, stated this at the inauguration of the Technical Committee to work out modalities for the cooperation between the two ministries in Abuja, adding that the mandates of the Committee is to close up technology gaps; develop capacity for the production of security needs in the country and promote science and technology in the security system for the overall benefit of the nation.

He added that the committee would also create a platform for Nigeria to export goods and services to other countries, look at the problems using the tools of science and technology and create jobs, fight poverty and develop the economy.

Brig-Gen Mansur Dan Ali (Rtd), minister of Defence disclosed that the Military has recorded more than 85 percent in the fight against insurgency.

According to him, the ministries are working assiduously to ensure that Defence Industry Corporation (DICON), which has not produce anything tangible for the past 30 years, is replaced by military Industrial Complex that has short, medium and long term strategies of 5, 10 and 15 years duration.

At the end of the period, he noted it is expected that most needs of the nation will be met with the possibility of exporting to other nations.
