FCTA moves to complete Airport Road dualisation

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), says it is ready to complete the dualisation of the Abuja Airport Road popularly known as Bill Clinton road for easy flow of traffic from the Abuja airport.

The administration, made this known Thursday during stakeholders’ meeting preparatory to the closure and diversion of flow of motorists.

Speaking to journalists in this regard, the executive Secretary, Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) Engineer Jibril Umar, revealed that the reason for the meeting was to prepare the minds of the people and visitors who come to Nigeria on the proposed road diversion.

According to the executive secretary, the stakeholders’ meeting was necessitated by the nature of the road being an important gateway into the city and by implication into the country.

His words, “we are aware that lots of contributions can come from stakeholders involved in the axis, to enrich their knowledge and be properly guided while the construction works go on”.

Engineer Jilbril, further observed that the effort will also provide best services to residents and enhance the output of what is going to be done.

Also throwing more light on the technicalities, Director of Engineering Works in the FCDA, Engineer Hadi Hassan said that the contract under review was awarded to CCECC in March, 2018 having been approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC), due to its urgent need.

He said that the road remains an important route, as it’s a principal gateway to the city from the airport through the city centre.

He asserted that the work to be done, will involve partial closure of the road, which will have motorists diverted to another routes.

According to engineer Hassan, the construction work will last for eight weeks to end by October this year, stressing that the second segment, will entails the closure of the outer bound.

He also said that the carriage way will be opened while the work is ongoing just as it will introduce one regular U-turn to ease movement.

Meanwhile, commuters are advised to use Abuja light rail to and from the airport to reduce traffic volume on the axis.

Stakeholders like FAAN, NCAA, Ministry of Aviation, NSA, FRSC, Property owners, organisations along the area, UN Mission, FCT Water Board attended the meeting.
