FCT Minister to re-enact reading culture in students

In order to ensure that pupils and students resident in the territory imbibe the reading culture, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, Mallam Mohammed Musa Bello, has redirected schools and tertiary institutions, through the education secretariat, to exploit the advantages in the FCT to ensure proper learning and eschew vices in children.

The minister made this known in preparation for the new academic section after the long break, an effort geared towards injecting new zest in revitalizing the seemingly decayed system.

According to him, the FCT administration cannot watch its students waste number of years without good and quality education that will see good products from its managed schools after years of academic process.

The minister, reaffirmed his commitment to providing enabling environment for academics and children for greater FCT. Stressing that his administration, will continue to ensure that requests are answered to that effect.

While admonishing the people, he revealed that Abuja has no fewer than six state-of-the-art functional libraries that are being used at all times by residents and visitors to the federal capital territory, stressing that the secretariat should make both public and private schools exploit the opportunities in exposing their students.

He said, “the national library next to the Area Two Shopping Centre is strategically located and has been in use in that location for more than three decades now.

Similarly, the National Library also has another branch at the Central Business District, Abuja behind the Total filling station, opposite Reiz Continental Hotel, which is within the nerve centre of the city.”

He further, stated that the FCT Administration through the Education Resource Centre also owns and manages four public libraries in the federal capital territory.

“There is also the City Library located at Wuse Zone 4, with an e-section as well as the Gudu Public Library with special children’s section, which are all full functional.

“The FCT also boosts of a public library in Bwari; in addition to the education resource centre directly manages a reference library at its headquarters in Wuse Zone 7, which are all open for public use.”

Also in ensuring proper extension of its proper academic system, the Administration recently allocated plots of land in six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory for the building of public libraries.

The Administration therefore, wishes to encourage the residents and the visitors alike to find time to visit these public facilities for research and other educational needs to improve selves for better growth.
