Fadama 111 empowers 525 farmers in Edo

Edo Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr Monday Osaigbovo, said on Tuesday that the Fadama 111 programme had empowered more than 525 farmers in the state.

Osaigbovo made this known during the presentation of the budget performance of the ministry at the Edo House of Assembly in Benin.
He explained that the farmers were empowered between the last quarter of 2016 and September, 2017.

He said the beneficiaries were drawn from various Fadama Community Associations (FCA) and Fadama User Group (FUG).
”The grants were given to them to expand their fish business, agro processing, crop production, piggery and poultry,’’ he said.

The commissioner also said that there were no functional silos in the state.
He added that the ministry was making arrangements to store grains in the Federal Government silos at Irrua in Esan Central Local Government area of the state.

Osaigbovo, however, said that plans were underway to revive the Igara cattle ranch and that a committee had been set up to investigate the alleged encroachment into the ranch.
