Factional APGA drags two Anambra judges to EFCC, NJC

A faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), led by Chief Martin Agbaso has said that they have dragged two Anambra State judges( names not mentioned) to the National Judicial Council (NJC) and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC).

The spokesman of the faction, Mr. McCool Nwosu, accused the judges of misconduct and abuse of court process. Speaking with newsmen in Awka, the Anambra State capital, Mr Nwosu, said their petition was sequel to “queer and contradictory” role the two judges played in a matter brought before them by the Chief Victor Oye- led party.

He said, “The All Progressives Grand Alliance and three other interest groups have petitioned the National Judicial Council (NJC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the roles of the two judges for facilitating a queer and contradictory order issued on July 18, 2017 at Nnewi.”

Nwosu said the order restrained the national chairman of the party, Chief Martin Agbaso from conducting congresses and APGA primary for the purpose of selecting the gubernatorial candidate of the party for the November 18 governorship election in the state until a motion on notice would be heard and determined.

He said the exparte order issued by one of the judges was in violation of the ruling of the Court of Appeal, Enugu Division which he said had refused an application for stay of execution on the order of Mandamus made by Justice Ozoemena of the Enugu State High Court which proclaiming Agbaso as the National Chairman of the party.

He said the applicants’ lawyers were fully aware of the processes at the Court of Appeal, yet they took the matter to a court below for adjudication.

Nwosu alleged that one of the judges “received the gift of a brand new Toyota Land Cruiser jeep over the matter; while the other judge was sighted at the burial of Governor Obiano’s mother, adorning the ‘Asoebi’ (burial uniform).

Said the spokesman “This is a direct confirmation of the affinity of the judge to an interested party; enough to deter him (the judge) from further continuing with the matter.”

He continued “It was on the strength of the sighting of the two dramatis personae severally in Aguleri, coupled with the alleged gift of a brand new Toyota Land Cruiser jeep to one of them that warranted the forwarding of a separate petition to the EFCC for proper investigation.”

The petitioners said they would report the conduct of the applicants’ lead counsel to Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee for unprofessional behavior to serve as deterrent to others.
