Explosions rock Maiduguri on Election Day

Reports coming in say multiple explosions caused by detonated bombs and RPG shootings have put the residents of Maiduguri on edge as Nigeria elects president and national assembly members today.
The two important elections were postponed last week by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for logistics reasons.
Following the explosions which happened mainly on the outskirts, reports say there was pandemonium this morning in Maiduguri and environs.
The reports suggest that Boko Haram operatives carried out the bombings, but added that the Nigerian Army prevented the attackers from entering the main capital city.
“Several suicide Bombers and mostly RPG fire targeted towards the metropolis from the outskirts, the response by Nigerian troops has made Boko Haram not to march on into the city centre,” a source was quoted to have said.
