Evah makes case for Roller Sports Federation

With few months to this year’s Africa Speed Skating Championship slated to hold in Togo from December 8-9, 2017, President of the Roller Sports Federation of Nigeria, Comrade Joseph Evah, has appealed to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and corporate organisations in the country to extend financial help to the federation to enable it sponsor athletes to the continental showpiece.

He made the appeal during a stakeholders meeting with club owners, coaches and technical officials aimed at charting a way forward for the game which he said is now practiced in every state of the Federation.

“As you can see roller sports is now a household name in the country and its now being practiced by many youths in almost all the states of the federation, but our problem is paucity of funds to organize as many competitions as possible to reposition the game because the Sports Ministry has not given us any grant to run the Federation.

“We invited club owners, coaches and technical officials from all states of the Federation to brainstorm on how to move the game forward. We equally want to know what facilities they have in their various states in preparation for the African championship and where those facilities does not exist to find out the best way to move their athletes to Lagos and make use of the National Stadium,” he stated.

Evah noted that it is unfortunate that a lot of attention is being paid to football at the detriment of other sports which he argued are capable of winning many laurels for the country at international competitions.

He announced that very soon trials will be organized to select athletes that will represent the country in Togo for continental the tourney.
