DSS warns public against dismissed officer impersonating the agency

The Department of State Services (DSS) has raised an alarm over the activities of one Barry Donald, a dismissed officer who has been impersonating its personnel to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the DSS said Donald has continued to engage in “unscrupulous activities,” using the agency’s name to mislead people and extort money under false pretences.

The secret police described his actions as criminal and warned Nigerians to be vigilant when dealing with individuals claiming to represent the service.

“The Department wishes to alert the public of the activities of one Barry Donald, a dismissed staff, who has been impersonating the Service and using its name for fraudulent purposes.

“Members of the public are therefore advised to desist from any dealings with him,” the statement read.

The DSS further reminded Nigerians that all official transactions or enquiries concerning its operations should be conducted through verified channels.

It urged citizens to promptly report anyone posing as an operative or attempting to exploit the agency’s name for personal gain.

“For requests, enquiries or complaints, the Service can be reached on 09088373515 or via email: dsspr@dss.gov.ng,” the statement added.

The security agency reiterated its commitment to maintaining professionalism and accountability in its operations while assuring the public that it would not hesitate to take legal action against anyone found impersonating its officers.
