Curfew in Bauchi as Soldiers, Boko Haram Engage in Gun Duel
The Bauchi State government on Sunday declared a 24-hour curfew in some parts of the state including Bauchi metropolis.
This came barely some hours after Nigerian troops engaged gunmen in fierce fighting in Dungulbe village, seven kilometres from the city of Bauchi the State Capital.
The gunmen had attacked Alkkaleri and Kirfi towns as well as the Bauchi metropolis.
Reliable security sources and villagers confirmed the fierce fighting.
A soldier told news en that fighter jets were sent to help them defeat the hoodlums.
He said: “The fighter jets are pounding the enemy position while ground troops are engaging them,”
There was no clear information on casualties on both sides but villagers said the soldiers had pushed the gunmen into a bush near Jitar village.
The Governor Mallam Isa Yuguda announced the curfew in the three local government areas to douse down tension.
This was contained in a press statement by one Abdu Ilelah on behalf of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
The government said that the measure was to forestall an escalation of the attack in the troubled areas, including the state capital.
Yuguda warned residents to stay indoors, declaring that any body found wanting must face the wrath of the law.
