Crafting Identity: Penuel’s Thread Ushers in a New Era of Heritage-Inspired Fashion Collection

Penuel’s Threads, the innovative fashion label renowned for blending Yoruba craftsmanship with contemporary design, is set to make a significant impact at the upcoming Africa Fashion Week Nigeria, where the designer will showcase a selection of his new collection called “The atelier’s design”.

This marks the second time Penuel’s Threads will feature at a fashion week; the last he had was GTCO Fashion week, highlighting his growing influence in Nigeria’s fashion industry. The designer also plans to present his latest designs at several other prominent fashion shows scheduled later this year.

Founded in 2019 by 29-year-old Emmanuel Obafemi, Penuel’s Threads has quickly established itself as a leader in premium Agbada, kaftans, shirts, and tailored trousers that celebrate Nigerian heritage while embracing modern aesthetics.

In a recent interview during the launch of his new workshop, Obafemi shared the inspiration behind his brand. “My goal was simple: make men feel majestic in their everyday clothes,” he said. “Penuel’s Thread is more than just a brand; it’s a journey of identity, resilience, and purpose. With each piece, we’re weaving stories that uplift and inspire.”

Since its inception, the brand has grown from a small studio crafting custom pieces to a thriving community of wearers who walk confidently in their purpose. Obafemi emphasized, “Fashion is about expression, identity, and connection. I wanted to create a space where art and purpose meet.”

His latest collection, titled “The Atelier’s Design,” emphasizes relaxed elegance suitable for various occasions; from formal events and office wear to religious gatherings. Each Agbada is meticulously hand-embroidered with traditional Aso-Oke stitch patterns, and every kaftan is tailored to ensure a perfect fit.

In response to the rising demand for distinctive menswear, Penuel’s Threads has launched a made-in-Lagos export capsule targeting diaspora boutiques in London, Canada, and Dubai. The brand is also testing a digital custom-fit app, allowing clients worldwide to submit measurements remotely and access bespoke fashion easily.

Looking ahead, Obafemi shared his vision for growth: “We’re expanding our in-house academy to train 500 tailors by 2030. Creating a chain of skilled artisans who earn, create, and pass on their knowledge is central to our mission of empowering youth and promoting sustainable craftsmanship.”

Reflecting on his journey, the designer stated, “Fashion has always been about more than appearance for me. It’s about telling stories, embracing culture, and building confidence. I hope Penuel’s Thread continues to inspire others to embrace their creativity and heritage through what they wear.”
