COVID-19: NYSC subjects Governor, Minister others to screening before entering camps

As part of recommended measures to contain the COVID-19, high profile personalities such governors and ministers are subjected to screening along with Corps Members and other visitors before entry into NYSC Orientation Camps nationwide.

This is in addition to the provision of hand wash points with germ-killing liquid soaps and sanitizers at strategic points in all the Orientation Camps.

According to a statement signed by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Adenike Adeyemi, the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, who presided over the swearing-in ceremony of the 2020 Batch ‘A’ Corps members in his state, Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare and others were among the personalities subjected to screening before allowed access to the orientation camp.

Others include the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim; Justice B. A. Agbata, who represented the Anambra State Chief Judge; and the State NDLEA Commander, Mr. Misbahu Idris amongst others.

Apart from screening all the 2020 Batch ‘A’ Stream One Corps Members in the 37 NYSC Orientation Camps in the country, sensitisation leaflets on Lassa fever and Coronavirus have been distributed to them so as to arm them with the requisite information on the viruses and how to prevent infection.

A total of 1,926 Corps Members took the Oath of Allegiance at the ceremony comprising 918 males and 1,008 females.

Inaugurating the newly constructed and well-furnished Orientation Camp in Umuawulu/Mbaukwu in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Governor Obiano commended NYSC for its unifying roles since its inception 47 years ago.

He reiterated its administration’s commitment to the timely completion of the South-East NYSC Skills Acquisition Centre located in the State.

He urged the Corps Members to be diligent in their services.

Obiano also promised to improve on the welfare of Corps Members deployed to the State.

“I urge you to put in your best during your service year. Don’t travel when it is not necessary.” He said.
