Community petitions LASG, police over kingship crisis

Residents of Shangisha community has petitioned the Lagos state government and the Commissioner of Police in Lagos state, over the unrest in their environment, caused by the tussle that ensued over the installation of the new Baale in the community.
The uneasy tension, started when the residents of Shangisha took to the street in an open show of solidarity for their Baale, Chief Micheal Mutiu Ogundare, who the community choose over Jamiu Lawal who has been installed as the new Oba.
According to the spokesperson of the community, there is a law suit pending at the Court of Appeal, yet, a new Oba has been installed against the court order.
The Community Development Association (CDA) chairman in the area, Alhaji A. F. Bello, also said that the new Oba and the family is not known in the area and that they do not have anything that connect them with Shangisha.
“We have written to the governor and the commissioner of police to wade into the crisis in our community. Our people are peace loving people, and we will avoid any situation that will disrupt the peace in our environment.
“This case have been in court since 1997, and had even gone to the court of appeal in a suit number ID/276M/200. We had hope that the state government would have waited for the court to finish it first before taking the next line of action.”
“The imposition of an unknown person on us as our leader without the consent of our community is therefore unacceptable. Mr. Jamiu Lawal is not known to us and does not live amongst us. We have written on this matter in the past that our support is for Chief Micheal Mutiu Ogundare”, Bello said.
Efforts to communicate with Mr.Jamiu Lawal proved abortive because his lines were not available.
However, residents of shangisha also took their protests to the office of the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to show their support for their Baale Chief Micheal Mutiu Ogundare, and to request that the lagos state leave thing as they are pending the determination of the case by the court of Appeal.
