Chinese Govt, Military taskforce spends N6million on IDPs

The Chinese government in collaboration with the Special Task Force code named Operation Safe Haven on Friday gave relief materials worth of N6 million to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), in Plateau State.

The Chinese government represented by the Deputy Ambassador to Nigeria, Lin Jing, said the Chinese government is always willing to share the fruits of development with other countries, adding that the aim of the Chinese government is to boost the economy of developing countries and to ensure that peace and stability is maintained.

The Deputy Ambassador who spoke on Friday in Jos at a brief ceremony during the presentation of items to IDPs, in Geo- Science Anguldi IDP camp in Plateau State, also said the Chinese government is hoping to build a peaceful world where security of lives and property will be top priority.

He lamented regrettably that Nigeria still face a lot of security challenges with the emergence of farmers headers clash, adding that with the renewed vigor of the Special Task Force Commander, Major General Augustine Agundu, the ugly tale will soon be a thing of the past.

Lin Jing who represented the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Zhou Pingjian, said the alarming number of over 40,000 IDPs in Plateau is devastating.

However, the STF Commander, Major General Augustine Agundu while delivering his remark at the donation ceremony, said the the IDPs in Plateau have been traumatized.

He said the aim of his Command is to ensure that the IDPs returns to their various homes within the shortest time frame.

“We are going to work hard to ensure that they return home. They are not interest in staying in camp, they want to go back to their various communities, because they are hard working people and would not want to depend on relief materials.

“We will collaborate with all relevant security agencies to see that the IDPs return home: what is required is to rebuild their villages, and with this, I am sounding a strong warning to those who are cursing trouble in Plateau, by now the should know that the game is over as we are determined more than ever to deal decisively with them”, Agundu said.

On his part, the Chairman Civil Military Relationship in Plateau, Mr. Chuwang Rawnpan said it is instructive to note that the mandate of the Military Task Force goes beyond maintaining peace with the use of force, but also to also demonstrate civil military relationship aimed at winning the hearts and minds of the people.

Our correspondent reports that the STF sends relief materials to three IDP camps in Barkin-Ladi, Gassa and Anguldi communities in Plateau State.
