Chief of Air Staff arrives Borno in search of missing jet

Air Marshal Oladayo Amao, the Chief of Air Staff, arrived in Borno State on Thursday for a briefing on efforts to retrieve a Nigerian Air Force Alpha Jet that went missing on Wednesday evening after losing contact with radar.

When it went missing, the missing jet was fighting Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province when it lost radar contact in Nigeria’s north-east state.

The CAS “arrived Maiduguri this morning and was briefed on ongoing search and rescue operations in connection with the missing Alpha Jet aircraft,” according to a statement from a NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet.

Amao “urged pilots, engineers, and technicians to remain undeterred and resolute in their commitment to ensuring the restoration of stability to the North East,” according to Gabkwet.

The number of officers onboard the yet-to-be-found jet was not disclosed by the NAF spokesman.
