CDHR to Buhari: It’s better to restructure Nigeria than to go to war

A human right group, the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) Ebonyi state chapter at the weekend called on President Mahammadu Buhari to obey the calls for restructuring of Nigeria than allowing the country to plunge into another war.
The group stated this during a one-day seminar and swearing-in ceremony of its new executives that took place in Abakaliki said the unity of the six geo-political zones of the country will be stronger when the present administration gives way for restructuring.
Its position was echoed in a lecture delivered by its state chairman, Rev. Fr. John Odeye who stated that the best way for Nigeria to move forward is restructuring and therefore urged President Mohammadu Buhari to think twice and take a cue from the blue print of former President Goodluck Jonathan who, according to him, sacrificed a lot to ensure that the country remains united through the national conference that was organized during his administration.
He noted that the unity of Nigeria is not a mistake stressing that if Nigeria fails, Africa will suffer.
Another lecturer, Mr. Jerry Chikwuokoro, who spoke on corruption accused the present administration of aiding corruption, alleging that when it ignores the constitution in appointments of particular people at the expense of others, arrest and prosecution of particular group and allowing Fulani herdsmen to continue killing innocent citizens without even condemning them is uncalled for.
He stressed further that EFCC, ICPC and other anti-graft agencies can hardly fight corruption when the political system of Nigeria is faulty.
In his remark, the chairman the rights group mobilization, Mr. Ade Ekweson who represented the National president of the association said the union is committed to fight against the increasing human right abuse in Nigeria especially in South East zone of the country.
He charged the newly sworn in executives that includes; Barr. Anosike Onyeka as the chairman, Jerry Nwoke as secretary, Daniel Nwagwu treasurer to fight for justice of the common man in Ebonyi state.
In a swift reaction, the new state chairman Barr Anosike stated the preparedness of his administration to ensure that the rampant cases of unlawful arrest of the common person in Ebonyi state is put to an end.
