Buhari will take Nigeria to next level- Lagos speaker

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa on Tuesday declared that President Muhammadu Buhari has been following a path of success that would take the nation to the next level.
Speaking during the visit of the British Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. Ray Kyles to his office, he added that the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government has done tremendously well in the last one year.
He commended Buhari for the steps he has taking so far towards growıng the natıon’s economy, stressing that his party plans to bring about economic development to the country.
“I would also like to say that infrastructural development is important, so our government would have to come up with economic policies that can assist most of the states that have not been able to pay the salaries of their workers,” he said.
The Speaker informed the visiting envoy that the State Assembly has been making laws that protect the interest of the people of Lagos, stressing that the Assembly has also passed laws that protect child rights and the women against domestic violence.
According to him, the Assembly takes credit for approving the re-ordering of the 2015 budget that helped Governor Akinwunmi Ambode procured security gadgets and vehicles for the security personnel in the state whıch had ın turn led to a secured environment.
Obasa thanked the British Government for her role during the last general elections in Nigeria, which saw the APC whıch was then the opposıtıon taking over power from the rulıng party.
“Our relationship with Britian has been long and it dates back to over 100 years. We are ready to work with any country that can help bring about development in our society. We look forward to co-operation with other states and countries to help develop our state,” Obasa stated.
On his part, the deputy Brıtısh Hıgh Commıssıoner, Mr. Ray Kyles described the last general election in Nigeria as one that brought about relief to the country, adding that President Buhari came with a determination to deal with security issues and tackle corruption to achieve economic growth in the country.
“Britain is ready to work in partnership with Nigeria to ensure development and support the President in facing the challenges in the country. We have been discussing with Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State to see how we can work with the state”, he stated.
The Brıtısh Envoy who saıd he is excited about the direction the government of Nigeria is movıng in the last one year dısclosed that he got to Lagos in June 2015 and that one of his priorities was to know more about the governance of the state.
“My coming here is to build relationship with Lagos. This is the most important state in the country because it is the economic heartbeat of the country. It is one of the top five cities in the world going by its population and we are ready to work with Lagos State to build a strong relationship between Britain and the state”, he stressed.
