Buhari asks Health Minister to investigate spread of ‘unknown disease’ in Jigawa

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Minister of Heath, Prof. Isaac Adewole to investigate reports of an ‘unknown disease’ that has led to the death of several children in Jigawa State.
The President also directed the Health Minister to deploy all the necessary machinery to combat the outbreak of the disease reported in Gidan Dugus village of Wangara district, Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The Senior Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, in a statement on Wednesday, said that Buhari had called Jigawa State Governor Abubakar Badaru on Tuesday evening to find out the details of the incident and commiserated with the governor and the families of the victims.
Buhari assured the governor that the Federal Government would provide the necessary support to contain the spread of the disease.
About 50 children had reportedly lost their lives to a strange disease, while 40 others are currently hospitalized in Gidan Dugus village of Wangara district, Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The Daily Times gathered that the children under the age of five are dying on daily basis as a result of high fever, stomach upset, vomiting, diarrhea and shortage of blood.
