Dangote Group mourns Phyna’s sister killed by truck in Edo crash

Dangote Group has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Ruth Otabor, sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna.

Ruth died on Sunday, weeks after being involved in a road accident with one of the company’s trucks in Auchi, Edo state.

In a statement signed by its management, Dangote Group said it had been fully involved in supporting Ruth’s treatment since the accident, covering all financial and medical expenses and preparing to fly her abroad for advanced care.

“Since the accident, our officials and insurance partners have been by her side, covering all financial and medical costs and supporting her family,” the statmemt reads.

“Arrangements had been made for her to be flown to India for advanced treatment, pending medical clearance from her doctors.

“Sadly, despite these efforts and Ruth’s brave fight to live, we lost her today.”

The company described her passing as a painful loss and extended condolences to the Otabor family, her friends and loved ones.

“At Dangote Group, safety, accountability, and compassion remain at the core of our operations. We remain committed to strengthening our safety systems and supporting those affected in moments of tragedy. May God grant her mercy and eternal rest,” the group added.

Ruth’s death is not only a blow to her family but also to Phyna, who gained national prominence after winning Big Brother Naija in 2022.
