Biffo blames pitch for defeat

Niger Tornadoes head coach Abdul Usman Biffo has blamed the Umuahia Township Stadium pitch for his side’s 0-1 loss at Abia Warriors in Sunday’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday 9 clash.
Super Eagles marksman Chisom Chikatara netted the match winner in the 83rd minute to hand Warriors the whole three points at stake.
Biffo said both sides did not enjoy a good display of football as he called on the league body, League Management Company (LMC), to do something urgent regarding the poor playing turf.
The former Giwa FC tactician equally blamed his wards for failing to take their chances in the first half as Jackson Daniel wasted a glorious opportunity from Gabriel Wassa’s cross to put the newly promoted side in front.
“The pitch did not allow free flow of football on both sides. We (Tornadoes) did not enjoy the poor playing condition of the field though I must blame my wards somehow if they had taken their chances we wouldn’t have left Umuahia empty-handed.
“Niger Tornadoes were the better side in the first half and could have been two goals up but somehow the hosts were saved from dropping points at home again.
“We are optimistic that very shortly Tornadoes will end their nine-week search for an away victory in the ongoing league season,” said the former Kogi United coach.
The loss at Abia Warriors leaves the Minna outfit’s points haul at 10 points from a possible 27 in the nine-week-old top flight.
