ASUU drags Oloyede, UNILORIN to Buhari, CCB, and ICPC
The University of Illorin branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari, the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) for allegedly perpetrating fraudulent and corrupt practices as well as undermining and disrespecting court orders
The varsity’s branch Chairman of ASUU, Dr K N Afolayan, told newsmen in Abuja over the weekend after submitting the petitions, called for drastic action against those petitioned including establishing a high-powered Commission of enquiry, comprising men and women of integrity not connected to and are not likely to fall under the influence of the University, to look into the petition of the Union and make the appropriate recommendations.
He said ‘The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is constrained to bring to the attention of His Excellency the monumental breaches which have persisted in the University of Ilorin and which require the urgent intervention of the Visitor.
‘’Most of the fraudulent acts and breaches have been carried out by the immediate past and current Administrations of the University under the pretext and propaganda of “maintaining peace and stability” on the campus’’.
‘’The University, therefore, maintains a non-transparent Administration and embarks on repressive policies to silence critical voices in the University. This is anathema to the worldwide tradition of University as an institution that thrives on debate and forthrightness. It also inevitably and demonstrably breeds corruption’’.
Other demands made by the petiotioners are that he University should be directed to obey the ruling of the National Industrial Court by recognizing and allowing representatives of the Academic Staff Union of Universities to assemble without hindrance and withdraw support for a group declared illegal by the National Industrial court, but continued to perpetuate itself through cronies.
Meanwhile the union also petitioned the CCB and the ICPC alleging among other things that in 2012, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede who was then the Vice Chancellor and with his tenure about to end, hurriedly appointed his son (Mr. Ayopo Oloyede), as lecturer while the latter was a student abroad on PTDF scholarship.
The petition also alleged that Prof Oloyede’S daughter, Dr. Lateefah Oloyede was appointed without requisite qualification: in 2014, when the system was severely manipulated with an MBBS but without the requisite Fellowship or Residency training, and that she was not even qualified to teach in the sensitive Department of Anaesthesia into which she was employed as a lecturer
