Army condemns act by female soldier who brutalised girl in Lagos

The Nigerian Army on Monday condemned the brutal and inhuman treatment metted on a 10 year old house help by her boss one Esther Onyinye who is a serving female soldier in Lagos.
It was gathered that Onyinye had allegedly assaulted the girl whom she claimed is also her neice for not washing plates. The female soldier had also inflicted heavy body injuries on the 10 year old.
In response to the act, the Headquarters 81 Division Nigerian Army which covers Lagos and Ogun said the action is cruel and smack of respect for human dignity.
According to a statement from the Division as signed by the Acting Deputy Director, 81 Division Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Daudu, investigation into the matter has been launched by the Nigerian Army Human Rights Desk of 81 Division in conjunction with the National Human Right Commission, South West Zone.
The investigation it was learnt is to ascertain the level of culpability or otherwise of the accused personnel for appropriate sanctions.
The statement further says, “ The attention of the Division has been drawn to social media reports published on Sunday 19 August 2018 where a female soldier is accused of brutalizing her little niece for allegedly not washing plates.
“ While the incident is cruel and smack of respect for human dignity which the Nigerian Army totally frowns at as it is unfortunate. Nevertheless, an investigation in to the matter has been launched by the Nigerian Army Human Rights Desk of 81 Div in conjunction with the National Human Right Commission, South West Zone to ascertain the level of culpability or otherwise of the accused personnel for appropriate sanctions.
“The General Officer Commanding 81 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Musa Sani Yusuf wishes to use this medium to reassure the general public of its uncompromising professional disposition to all forms of illegitimate acts.
However, Onyinye who had also taken to her facebook page to defend her action said, “Hello my friends and well wishers, the girl is my neice pls am very sorry for going too far to correct her in this manner, I am trying to see how she can be better person. I never meant to maltreat her, i want the best for her.
“you can imagine her at this age, she is not a virgin. She portrays character that makes her peers to always watch her and brings report every now and then about her both at school the teacher will always say ‘This girl is a problem child’.
“There are things she does that i don’t want to say here, please insults and curses will not help us with a solution to make her a better person, but ur kind advise. Thank you and God bless.”
