Anambra will sustain itself by 2021 -Obiano

The Anambra state governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has re-stated his commitment to ensure that the state occupy the next position after Lagos in revenue generation and also overtake other states in export of agricultural produce.

According to the governor, his second term will be dedicated towards making Anambra a hub in agricultural produce like rice, honey, spinach both for local consumption and for export.

Chief Obiano stated this on Tuesday in Abuja when he picked up the nomination form for his re-election slated to hold on the 18th of November, 2017 under the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.

The governor who was accompanied by teaming APGA supporters in a carnival float, said that he has done very well and has been able to deliver on the mandate reposed on him by the Anambra citizens and has also brought accelerated development in all sectors including security.

Speaking on his plans for the state if re-elected, Obiano said, “In the next four and half years, Anambra state will be like Lagos. They will be self sufficient in terms of revenue. Therefore, whatever we get from Abuja will be “jara.”

We have invested greatly in agriculture, oil and gas, education, health; our airport will be up and running in the next three years.”

The incumbent governor recounted some of the achievements he has recorded as well as projects which he intends to embark upon in the next dispensation when elected.

He said, “In Agriculture, we have gotten to a level that is unprecedented in that we can be called one of the biggest Agricultural state in Nigeria. We feed on what we produce. We have Anambra rice which we are now exporting to the Uk, US and many more. So we are now self sufficient in rice production.

“Anambra consumes 320,000 tonnes of rice a year but we we are doing now an addition of 275,000 metric tonnes of rice. So we have exceeded our consumption capacity, so the surplus is for export.

We also discovered that our honey is one of the best in the world from analysis. We have even started getting orders to supply honey abroad and with the export, we shall make a lot of money. The average Anambra man tries to be independent.”

Obiano dismissed the insinuations by Chief Martins Agbaso, claiming to be the legitimate chairman of the party, saying that the party has only one incontrovertible leadership.

“I can assure you now that we have one national chairman. That national chairman is Ozo Victor Oye. Every other guy or whoever is parading himself is not recognized.”

The governor equally affirmed that elections will hold in Anambra State despite the call from the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB), saying that they never called that election should not hold in Anambra State.

“This is not correct, nobody said that there will not be election in Anambra State. Let me dismiss it now. There will be election in Anambra. Nobody can really stop election in Anambra when INEC has already rolled our timetable. Nobody can stop election in Anambra, I won’t allow it as long as INEC has not stated otherwise.”

On the Ozubulu massacre, Obiano reaffirmed that the Anambra state government will not rest until those responsible for the dastardly act are apprehended dead or alive. He equally stated that the killing cannot pass as terrorism or ethnic agitation but violence between two persons with common business interest.

“Ozubulu killing is not the kind of terrorism done by Boko Haram, it is not from people agitating for separation. Ozubulu killing is a feud between two gang stars that started somewhere outside Nigeria, and they fought themselves over here.

Both of them are from that village where the village is situated. Very soon, am very confident that we are going to pick up the guy that did that thing, dead or alive,” Obiano assured.
