Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede wins Entrepreneur of the Year award

The Business Year (TBY) has awarded Nigerian entrepreneur, investor, philanthropist, and Chairman of Coronation Capital, Mr. Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede with its Entrepreneur of the Year 2017 award in recognition of his entrepreneurial drive and visionary leadership in Nigeria’s business scene.

In particular, special consideration was given to the exceptional results achieved IN 2017 by Wapic Insurance PLC, in which he is a core investor and Chairman. The award ceremony was held in Coronation Capital’s offices in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Despite the challenging climate, in 1Q2017 Wapic Insurance reported a 135% increase in Profit Before Tax (PBT) compared to the same period the year before.

The performance is a clear sign of the insurer’s consolidating position as the leading firm in Nigeria’s insurance industry and of its commitment to international standards, financial strength, and excellent risk rating.

A qualified lawyer, Aig-Imoukhuede earned a reputation as a highly respected financial professional during his three decades as a banker, when, together with his deputy and business partner Herbert Wigwe, he managed to transform the-then failing Access Bank into one of the top-five banks in the country,

before stepping down as CEO in 2013 and founding Coronation Capital, a successful Nigerian private equity investment management and advisory firm. Aig-Imoukhuede is also the President of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE),

the founder of the Africa Initiative for Governance (“AIG”), a non-profit organisation established to be a catalyst for high public sector performance and to inspire and support future leaders of the public sector;

and co-chairman of the UK-Nigeria Capital Market Task Force, while also sitting on the board of other management companies in Nigeria andabroad.

Besides his activity in the financial sector, Aig-Imoukhuede is also actively engaged in many social and philanthropic initiatives.

Aig-Imoukhuede expressed his appreciation and stated his admiration for international companies such as TBY that decide to enter the Nigerian market and commit to the country for the long term, showcasing the opportunities it offers to the investor community.
