Adamawa Govt To Rehabilitate 275 Sambisa Rescued Hostages

Adamawa State Governor Bala James Ngilari has assured the 275 rescued women from Sambisa forest by the military of government continued support.

Ngilari, who stated this while presenting truckloads of food items to the victims of Boko Haram insurgency, explained that his administration had the responsibility to continue to cater for the plight of internally displaced persons as a result of insurgency.

He said that since the inception of his administration the tide had turned against the insurgents following the engagement of the local hunters, vigilante and the military, while the plight of IDPs had remained the priority of his administration and called on the in-coming administration to do same.

He said he was also affected by the scourge as three persons were murdered in his home by insurgents, adding that government had intervened at various times by providing food, clothing and medicaments to the IDPs at various camps across the state.

A camp co-ordinator from National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). Sa’ad A. Bello, said at the peak of the insurgency, two hundred and seventy thousand IDPs were hosted across camps in the state, while over thirty thousand were sheltered in Malkohi camp.
He said out of the rescued victims, sixty nine were women, while the remaining were children not more than eighteen years of age.

He said the victims’ plight was pathetic and pointed out that education and commerce needed to be stabilised in areas affected by insurgency, as people returned to their homes. The military had last Saturday rescued about two hundred and seventy women and children, when it invaded Sambisa forest, a stronghold of the insurgents and brought them to the NEMA-managed Malkohi camp.
