A/Ibom correctional centres begin proactive measures against coronavirus


Correctional service centres in Akwa Ibom state have commenced protective measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus among inmates across centres in the state.
Controller of correctional centres in the state, Alex Oditah disclosed this on Tuesday during an official visit to the centre located in Ikot Abasi and Eket respectively.
Oditah also disclosed that he was at the correctional service centres to sensitise both staff and inmates to be conscious of the dreaded virus that is threatening humanity.
“We have come to sensitize both the inmates and staff on the need to be conscious of the pandemic ravaging the world and to keep the environment clean at all times,” the controller stated.
He explained that the Nigerian Correctional has given directives for water, soap, sanitizers, infrared and thermometers to be made available in all correctional services centres in the country as a preventive measure against the spread of the coronavirus.
Oditah said that he has visited Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Ikot Abasi and Eket Correctional Centres to observe compliance to the directive, saying that “I have visited the correctional service centres to ensure that they comply with the directive.
“We are using thermometer and infrared to detect the temperature of whoever comes to the custodian centres to measure the spread of the coronavirus.”
He said that henceforth, anybody who refuses to put hand sanitizers or check body temperature would not be allow access into the facilities, adding that visitors to inmates and staff have been regularised in all the correctional centres across the state.
