Group distributes 7, 500 seedlings to shore up afforestation scheme in Bauchi

A Bauchi-based nongovernmental organisation, the Development Exchange Centre (DEC), has distributed 7, 500 seedlings of various varieties to five communities in Lafiya District of Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State as part of its commitment to curtail environmental degradation.

Addressing newsmen in Bauchi including community members drawn from

Kupte, Mamsurme, UngwarWajaKofarGangur and UngwarZubairu all of Lafiya

districts, the organisation’s programme officer in charge of Wash and Environmental

management, Mr. Yusuf Isheni, implored the people of the area to nurse

the seedlings to maturity so as to protect the area from the threat of desertification currently ravaging northern Nigeria.
