Patunola-Ajayi emerges NIESV president
The Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) has inaugurated Dr. Bolarinde Patunola-Ajayi as its 22nd President.
Prior his investiture, Patunola Ajayi was the Vice Chairman and Chairman NIESV, Lagos Chapter and chairman of the Association of Professional Bodies in Nigeria (APBN).
Speaking at the investiture in Lagos, he stated that the body dissipate more of its energy towards ensuring conformity with ethical standards and best practices of the profession.
He said; “Good image is very essential in the professional ratings of any profession. The perception of the public and the clients about our services is one of the strong yardsticks to determine the level of patronage to our services. Profession negligence is a breach of duty or care between the professionals and their client.
“Our advocacy to members on professionalism will be intensive to ensure that we maintain the enviable standards required by the users of our services.”
The president added that the profession is one that cuts across several facets of human endeavours including governance, economy, management, environments among others.
He emphasized the imperative consulting profession expertise, noting that unprofessional practices may lead to colossal loss of resources.
“When you think of acquiring land or property for a living house, farmland, office space, industrial projects, road network, airport/seaport, power lines, pipelines, tourism, site, and any type of use, it is always a better choice to approach the Estate Surveyors and Valuers to handle the acquisition for you. Reason; he or she must ensure that what you are acquiring has a good title,” he stressed.
The president, Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN), Mr. Gabriel Fasoto in his keynote address condemned unscrupulous practice of the profession by non-professionals noting that such act defaces the body and leads to disastrous results especially on the path of deceived clients.
He urged the body to seek collaboration with relevant professional bodies and erect effective structures to checkmate and penalize erring individuals.
The chairman of the investiture and 11th president, NIESV, Mr. Joe A. Idudu equally advised the institution to seek government’s protection against the invasion of the body, adding that indigenous practitioners should not be discouraged from building their professional conduct on ethical standards.
