United were hoping to finalize Sancho’s deal as the focal point of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s project to rebuild the club and challenge City and Liverpool for the title next season, but couldn’t break through Dortmund’s unyielding £100m valuation of the player.

Dortmund had given United until August 10 to meet their demand; with United not forthcoming with regard to meeting Dortmund’s valuation of the player, the Bundesliga giants are reportedly set to offer Sancho an improved deal to his current contract, which would effectively kill United’s chances of signing the player.

United continue to explore other options, with Bayern’s Kingsley Coman and Fiorentina’s Federico Chiesa rumoured to be on the radar.
