Reforms solution to persistent low-ranking, say SGF

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha, has said that reforms in public services is the only way whereby persistent low ranking on international development indices can be reversed.
Mustapha said this during the stakeholders meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday with a theme tagged “Enabling Governance and Institutional Environment.”
According to him, the purpose of reform in the public service is to have a tangible improvement in the public service by citizens.
Mustapha said that the importance to reform initiative is not only because the two leading reforms agencies in the country are parastatals under the OSGF, but because the National Strategy for Public Service Reform provides a common vision and long term agenda to guide the rebuilding and transformation of the Public Derives.
The reform aligned with Nigeria’s vision of 2020 as well as with the implementation of the 2017-2020 Federal Civil Service Strategy of the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, he said.
According to the SGF, reversing would obviously require enormous technical and financial investment and for this purpose the Office of the Secretary to Government of the Federation(OSGF) has initiated the importance of partnership.
He said, “The OSGF is partnering with Africa Global Partnership Support Framework to organise international resources for implantation of Nigeria’s key reform initiative.
“It is my delight to introduce participants to the SERVICOM Help Desk Radio Programme championed by National SEEVICOM office. The programme is meant to promote quality and timely service delivery Nationwide by empowering service recipients with right attitude.”
Mustapha emphasised the need for a robust website capable of showcasing various activities and policies of Government. This websites is being enhanced with links to accommodate various MDAs.
“The Bureau of Public Service Reform (BPSR) will give a lead paper as the Anchor on the ‘The overview of the National Strategy of the public service reform (NSPRS):
The role of OSGF and stakeholders in the implantation of puller One (1), FIRS, Federal Ministry of Justice, Institute of Conflict Resolution as members of the Panel is to enable them to deliver public goods and services in accordance with their mandate and with integrity, transparency and accountability,” Mustapha stated.
The SGF added that he has confidence in BPSR technical competence to deliver a lead paper on the overview of the subject matter.
