Cultists on the Prowl in Delta as CP Cries Out

Delta State Police Commissioner, Mr. Alkali Usman has raised the alarm over the increasing rate of cult activities in the State, saying the trend is becoming worrisome.

Usman made this known last weekend in his office in Asaba, when he received an award of Excellence for a job well done from Delta State Independent Community Newspaper Publishers Association (DSICNPA).

The State police boss said, “My worry is cult cases in the state. We have many killings in cult related cases. They are killing themselves and disturbing the peace of the state. Recently, three were killed while 24 of them arrested.

“Although the trend is embarrassing, but that notwithstanding, the police are fighting hard to deal with the issue and other crimes to the lowest ebb, if we cannot totally eradicate criminalists in the State.”

He stated that a solid structure has been put in place for him to engage criminals, particularly kidnapping, armed robbery and the cultists, who had been terrorising the state 24 hours of the day.

Usman explained that there is a police patrol team, 23 vehicles, and other undisclosed items that are on standby at strategic locations in the state to fight crimes.

He commended the press and the military personnel, for assisting the police in maintaining law and order in the state.

Earlier, while presenting the award, the Chairman of DSICNPA, Prince Charles Umejie said the police boss was given the award because of his “impeccable performance within the short period he had stayed in the state.

“We have experience and a more civil policing in our state, the officers can now listen to the complain of the people in the community they serve and DPOs are now operating with human face unlike before”, Umejie said.
