FG to boost eggs production with N564m In Ondo

The Federal government has empowered no fewer than 135 farmers in Ondo state with the presentation of cheques worthy over N564 million to boost production of eggs in the country.

Audu Ogbeh, the Minister Agriculture and Rural Development disclosed this during the flagging off the programme at Aaye community on Ijare road in Akure, the Ondo state capital.

Mr. Ogbeh noted that the initiative of the Federal government was aimed towards sustaining agriculture, entrepreneurship through Industrialization.

Ogbeh said that the Federal government was already partnering the National Egg Production Scheme (NEGPRO) to create jobs for the teeming unemployed youth.

He added that the federal government was dealing with the problems of frozen chickens and its smuggling across the border line which is the major problem facing poultry farmers in Nigeria.

He reiterated the federal government’s commitment at putting an end to hunger and unemployment in the country while that Ondo state part of the six states of the country chosen to begin the scheme.

“We have neglected agriculture for too long because of oil and gas. Now, our youths are jobless because we have imbibed the culture of doing nothing”.

The Minister also urged the people of the state especially the youths to key into the programme in order to reduce the dangling weight of discord and violence caused by idleness in Nigeria.

Earlier, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu said that his administration was prepared to partner with the Ministry of Agriculture in every possible way to ensure adequate implementation of the programme.

Mr. Akeredolu also used the opportunity to highlight major Agro-based projects of the state which include the proposed 42 billion Naira Egg Powder Factory in Emure hoping take off on 22nd February.

He added that the chocolate factory that is almost completed and inherited from the last administration in the state will engaged 18,000 youths across the state

The governor also charged the people to take the agriculture scheme seriously as its the only solution to unemployment in the country
