Police nabs 25 kidnappers along Suleja- Minna- Lambata- Bida roads
The Nigeria Police on Tuesday paraded 25 suspected kidnappers that were arrested along Suleja–Lambata, Minna and Bida roads after they escaped the onslaught of ‘Operation Absolute Sanity ‘ along the Abuja- Kaduna highway.
According to a statement issued by CSP Jimoh Moshood the Force spokesman, five separate notorious gangs were busted between August 14 and 22 along Suleja – Lambata, Minna and Bida roads.
The operation followed a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim K. Idris, which extended the ‘Area of Responsibilities of Operations Absolute Sanity on Abuja – Kaduna Highway to cover Suleja – Lambata, Minna and Bida Roads with effect from August 14, 2017.
The purpose of the extended operation is to tackle the gangs of kidnappers that escaped arrest on Abuja – Kaduna Highway and relocated to some major roads within Niger state.
Moshood said that in the ongoing operations “five different vicious and notorious kidnap for ransom gangs were dislodged and busted in their hideouts along Suleja–Lambata-Bida and Minna Roads in Niger State.”
“A total number of 26 suspected kidnappers were arrested in the operation. They all confessed to the offence and admitted to the various criminal roles they played in the commission of the crime.
He said that a number of arms and ammunition and other properties belonging to some of their victims who were rescued from the gang were recovered from them.
Most of the suspects were identified by the victims for being responsible for their kidnap. adding that investigation is being intensified to arrest the other suspects at large. All the suspects will be arraigned in court on completion of investigation.
Those arrested were Isah Umar 34 (principal suspect and gang leader); Abubakar Muhammed M 32 (principal suspect); Baje Sari 33 (principal suspect); Sanusi Adamu 34 (principal suspect and driver of the first gang); Nuhu Yahaya 32; (principal suspect and driver of the first gang); and Sanda Sale 29 (principal suspect).
Members of the second gang operating in military camouflage are Isiya Tukur ‘M’ 27yrs (Principal Suspect), Abbas Tasus ‘M’ 28yrs (Principal Suspect)
While the third gang comprises of Shafiu Mohammed 27 (principal suspect); Ali Ali 22 (principal suspect), Okechukwu Atama 35 (principal suspect), Mohammed Aliyu ‘M’ 26yrs (principal suspect), Sagiru Dahiru ‘M’ 24yrs (Principal Suspect),Abdulahi Bala 50 (principal suspect); Haruna Adamu ‘M’ 28 (principal suspect), Abubakar Aliyu 31 (principal suspect), Haruna Abubakar 37 (principal suspect); Yalli Ibrahim 33 (principal suspect), Yusuf Abdullahi 35 (principal suspect); Deneri Janyo Buba 36 (principal suspect), Sani Abubakar 25 (principal suspect); and Adamu Bello 29 (principal suspect) made up the fourth gang.
While four others: Abubaka Iliyasu 26 (principal suspect), Yahaya Alimadu 34 (principal suspect); Abdullahi Abubakar 32 (principal suspect); and Suleman Mohammed 37 (principal suspect) were members of the fifth gang.
Exhibits recovered from the gangs includes three AK 47 Rifles ,four single barrel gun ,two cut to size guns ,one locally made revolver ,one locally made pistol one set of military camouflage uniform, one set military rain coat ,two set of military shoes, charms, 69 round of 7.62X39MM live ammunitions ,28 live cartridges and two expanded cartridges.
Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police has directed the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGs) and Commissioners of Police (CPs) in zones and commands across the country to beef up security in their Area of Responsibilities (AOR) and ensure massive deployment of Armed Police Personnel, Patrol Teams and undercover operatives to black spots, flash points and other vulnerable criminal spots to nip in the bud all forms of crimes and criminality nationwide.
He also directed them to ensure that detection of crimes are prompt to serve as effective deterrent to who-will-be criminals adding that the ongoing raids on criminal hideouts must be sustained.
The Inspector General of Police expressed gratitude to the communities, towns and villages along Suleja, Lambata, Bida and Minna Road for the supports and assistance being rendered in terms of prompt information and complaints to the Police Personnel deployed in their localities.
