Nigeria’s unity not negotiable, Buhari insists in live broadcast

President Muhammadu Buhari’s much awaited broadcast to the nation happened at the appointed time of 7.am Monday.

In the exact five minutes speech, Buhari who has been away for over 100 days on medical leave in the UK and just came back to the country on Saturday emphatically said the nation’s unity is “non-negotiable”, this is no doubt a response to so many agitations of breakaways from different groups like IPOB, Niger Delta militant groups among others all calling for their own ‘republics’.

The President expressed dismay about some comments he read in the social media while he was away, adding that they were divisive and “crossed the national red lines. This country must remain one and our unity is non-negotiable.”

He urged the military not to relent on the fight against Boko Haram terrorists saying

“The successes we recorded in the fight against Boko Hara and other criminal elements in the last 18 months should not make us relax as all terrorists and criminals must be fought and destroyed.”

Buhari expressed his happiness to be back on home soil. “I am so glad to be home.”
