Katsina Assembly supports FG’s NPC’s takeover

The Katsina State House of Assembly, on Monday, threw its weight behind the taking over of the Nigerian Peace Corps (NPC), by the Federal Government as a security outfit.
Established in 1998 alongside the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), it complements military and para-military efforts in ensuring security in the country.
There are plans to make it a federal government outfit, of which a bill to that effect had passed first and second reading last year at the National Assembly.
But the plan is reportedly being frustrated by some elements in society, especially those who feel giving NPC such recognition could have negative effect on the police and NSCDC.
But the Speaker of the House, Hon. Sabiu Aliyu Muduru, said that the law-makers were in support of federal government’s takeover of the security outfit.
Muduru sppke, when he received the State Commandant of the organisation, Mohammed Ibrahim, in his office.
