2023: Nollywood woos Buhari on S/East Presidency

Nollywood for Igbo Presidency, a party in Nigeria’s film industry, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to back a president from the South East geopolitical zone in 2023.

The emergence of a president from that region of the country was significant at this stage of our national growth, according to the party, which includes creatives from all ethnic backgrounds.

Given the Igbo’s enormous contributions in uniting Nigeria and boosting the country’s GDP through sheer enterprise and fiscal presence in all nooks and crannies, the group said it would ensure equality, fairness, and justice.

The group said in a statement signed by Madu Chikwenedu, its national president, and Frankwhite Nzeh, its national secretary, that it will soon embark on a national visitation of key political stakeholders to lobby them on the need to support the idea.

“We feel compelled by some recent realities of our national life, to converge under the umbrella of Nollywood 4 Igbo Presidency, a non-partisan national political support group, comprising committed practitioners in Nigeria’s motion picture industry, Nollywood,” reads part of the declaration.

“Our sole aim is to organize and recruit as many active practitioners as possible as volunteers, with the sole goal of drumming up support for a Nigerian President from the South Eastern part of the country.

“For the promotion of fairness, equality, and justice in our nation, this call has become eminently expedient.

This group believes in the indivisible existence of the geographical space known as Nigeria, and will use any strategy available to promote and strengthen it, regardless of ethnic, cultural, or religious differences; as a result, we call on all political leaders of good conscience to support the call for the country’s political leadership to be ceded to the Igbos in 2023.

“Beginning the second week of March, we will embark on advocacy visits to top political leaders across tribal and religious divides to seek their support for the implementation of this call. We will also be reaching out to all the major political parties to lobby them on the need to zone the presidency of their respective parties to the zone in 2023.”
