2019: Kano INEC trains northwest officers on voters’ education

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) North West Zone, on Tuesday organised capacity building workshop to train its staffs in preparation for the 2019 general elections. The Capacity Building Programme, which took place at the Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Research and training, Mambayya, had over 200 Desk Officers in attendance. The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Shehu Riskuwa, represented by the Administrative Secretary, Muhammad Sani Muhammad said, voters education is considered a priority to the commission hence, the need to train the officers who in turn, would enlighten the public particularly those at the grass root. According to him, to have a successful electoral process, the voter must be well informed, and considering informations available to the Commission, INEC deems it necessary to embark on such enlightenment programs. Riskuwa said, the main purpose is to address issues such as voter’s rights, voting process, identification of political parties and other arising matters concerning elections. The commissioner, called on all stakeholders to join hands with the commission to get rid of every form of irregularities that might hinder the smooth conduct of the 2019 general elections.
