18 PERSONS KILLED, 155 RESCUED IN FIRE OUT BREAKS IN DELTA v GOVT SAVES N220 BN WORTH OF PROPERTY IN 18 MONTHS NOSA AKENZUWA, ASABA

The Delta State Government has said that 18 persons were evacuated dead, while 155 others who sustained degrees of injuries were rescued during fire outbreaks in 2015.

Stating that it saved property worth over N220 billion under the period in review, the State Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr. Chika Ossai, who confirmed the incidents to journalis on Monday disclosed that in the last 18 months, his ministry generated the sum of N19, 024,400 as revenue for the state government through the issuance and renewal of five safety certificates to industries and business premises.

He listed some notable incidents of five tackled by the fire service to include: Anioma Petrol Station, Okpanam Road, Asaba, Agip Oil and Gas Installation, Oleh NNPC Flow Station, Uzere, Ogbeogonogo Market, Asaba, St. Luke’s Hospital, Asaba, Shell Field Flow Station, Old Olomoro road, Oleh, Petroleum Tankers Garage, NPA, Express Way, Warri, among several others.

The commissioner said that to effectively combat fire outbreak, Bureau for Special Duties refurbished 11 firefighting trucks/tankers, eight operational vehicles, adding that within the period under review, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), a parastatal under the Bureau for Special Duties, disturbed relief materials to victims of natural or other disasters in the state.

While also saying that the Bureau for Special Duties had successfully organized and supervised pilgrimages to Jerusalem and Saudi Arabia by Christians and Muslims from the state, the commissioner said that in future, local government areas, as well will continue to provide succor for disaster victims to ameliorate their plight, among others.
