Delta Pardons 206 Inmates, 18 granted Bail, 2633 Cases of Awaiting trails reviewed

Delta State Government on Wednesday said it pardoned 206 Inmates who have been on awaiting trials at various Prisons in the state and granted bail to 18 others while 2633 cases were reviewed.
The State Chief Judge, Justice Marshall Umukoro who confirmed this to our correspondent in Asaba disclosed that 56 Inmates awaiting trials at warri prison were released and seven others granted bail adding that 2633 cases reviewed were all put together from Kwale, Agbor, Sapele, Ogwashi uku and Warri Prisons.
While decrying a situation whereby many complaints were Sacred to testify and Stand as witness in Court, the Chief Judge said that the situation has been worrisome as it becomes a hindrance to the Speedy trails and dispensation of justice adding that the high rate of crime among the youths in the country was becoming too unbecoming.
Justice Umukoro said that the Jail delivery was to review the case files of the awaiting trials Inmates at various Prisons in the State and release those who were wrongly detained as well as those who may have spent some years in custody, more than the number of years they should have spent if Convicted and advised the freed Inmates to shun Criminal action and turn a new leaf.
