Youth task to be focused, eschew violence

The newly inaugurated 21 members of the Anambra state caretaker committee of the National Youth Council of Nigeria have been tasked to be all inclusive in their efforts to address the crises rocking the state chapter of council.

The 21-member committee which was set up and inaugurated on March 28, 2017 by the South-East council in collaboration with the Board of Trustees of the Council, had as its terms of reference, to reconcile, reorganize and reposition the State Council and commence processes for the next unity congress.

They have a period of 6 months to deliver on the mandate.

State governor, Willie Obiano, while receiving the committee at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, reminded them that their job was very important as the Youths constitute an integral part of the society which when properly organized, can be viable tools for societal transformation.

He harped on the need for the youths to fully understand and key into the vision of his administration especially in the areas of agriculture and industrialization to make their lives more meaningful, adding that it the objective of his administration to create job opportunities for the people through the numerous investments it is attracting.

The governor further challenged the youths leadership to lead the campaign against drug abuse and cultism among youths as well as to mobilize the youths to participate actively in the upcoming Continuous Voter Registration in the state.

Presenting the committee, the Commissioner for Youths Entrepreneurship and Sports Development, Dr Uju Nworgu said in keeping with its supervisory role on the council as provided by the constitution, the Ministry had consulted with the relevant stakeholders on how to resolve the lingering leadership crisis where the idea of the committee was conceived.

The SouthEast Vice President of the Council, Comrade Innocent Nduanya commended the governor’s commitment towards empowering the youths and assured that the Council will continue to partner with his administration to continue to secure a new lease of life for them.

On his part, the Chairman of the Committee and Special Assistant to the governor on Pharmaceutical Matters, Mr Chibuzor Okar said they will take the campaign to the 21 Council areas of the state in ensuring that peace is restored and the State Council is rescued from money bags who have hijacked the Council for their personal gains.
The governor was later installed as tthe grand patron of the State Council by the Youths.
