You have never held any notable political appointment – Clark fires at Daura

Veteran leader of South South Nigeria, and Elder statesman of the Federal Republic, Edwin Clark has called out Mallam Mamman Daura over his inflammatory comments regarding the next Presidential elections in 2023.

The President’s nephew had on Tuesday advised that the next Nigerian President should be elected on the basis of merit as against the zoning system which is aimed towards allowing the mantle go round the fragmented ethnicities represented by the six geo-political zones in the country.

“This turn by turn, it was done once, it was done twice, and it was done thrice. It is better for this country to be one. It should be for the most competent and not for someone who comes from somewhere” he said during an interview with BBC Hausa Service

In a reactionary comment, Sir Edwin Clark has challenged Mr Daura’s credentials of playing this advisory role, having never served in any capacity which gives him the qualification to do so

“Who is Mamman Daura fooling? I have known Mamman Daura for very many years; when he was deputy editor of the New Nigeria Newspaper when his friend, the late Mallam Adamu Ciroma was Editor

“Mamman Daura has never held any notable political appointment to qualify him to be a political adviser to Mr President, Muhammadu Buhari on the affairs of Nigeria, which entitles him to have permanent accommodation/residency at the Aso Villa, with his family, where politicians go to him, to lobby for political appointments”.

The Elder statesman’s comments simultaneously raised question marks regarding Mamman Daura’s place at the Aso Villa, which appears to go beyond occasional visits to his uncle

“It is therefore not true that he visits the Aso Villa to advice Mr President. He resides permanently at the villa with his family” he said.
