Yobe: Police arrest 16 suspected robbers, 10 kidnappers, others
The Commissioner of Police, Yobe State, Yahaya Sahabo Abubakar, has said that 16 persons suspected to be armed robbers, 10 suspects involved in kidnapping and their associate female syndicate as well as two notorious fraudsters have been arrested.
The Police Commissioner made this known while parading the suspects before newsmen on Tuesday at the command headquarters in Yobe State.
A press statement obtained from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, ASP Dungus Abdulkarim, by our correspondent in Bauchi, indicated that two AK 47 Rifles, one re-branded pump action gun, three dane guns and several rounds of live ammunition of difference caliber were recovered as exhibited.
Some of the exhibits, according to Abdulkarim, are cutlasses, sledge hammers, swords and house breaking and burglary implements, one Honda accord V6 and unspecified number of property including foreign currency and several items of high value.
CP Abubakar said that the press briefing was part of the avenue to showcase the achievements made by the police in the fight against crime and criminality in the state.
The Police chief while commending his men for the successful reduction of certain criminal activities, such as farmers/herders clashes, rape, unnatural offences and other minor crimes, said armed robbery, burglary, kidnapping and theft has been on a slight increase.
“It is however pertinent to note that, in the first quarter of the year 2020, the Command arraigned over thirty (30) suspects to court for prosecution,” the CP pointed out.

According to him, while some of the suspects were convicted, others are undergoing trial, adding that about 25 case files are presently before the state Ministry of Justice for vetting and legal advice.
The Police commissioner, who appealed to the people of Yobe to remain vigilant and report all criminal activities to the nearest Police Station, assured them of adequate response and necessary action from the police to guarantee their safety.
