US based group gives financial assistance to 14 undergraduates in Enugu

The Nsukka US INC, a United State of America based indigenes of Nsukka, Enugu State, have given 14 students from Nsukka cultural zone studying in University of Nigeria Nsukka, financial assistance to help them excel in their academics pursuit.
Presenting the certificate of award to the benefiting students on Thursday, the Chairman of Nsukka US INC, Mr. IK Ugbo, said the aim of the award was to encourage undergraduate students take their studies serious and enable them get good grades on graduation.
“The aim of this award is to motivate students from Nsukka cultural zone to study hard to enable them excel and make either first or second class on graduation.
“In this 21st century, what is in vogue is education, without education you have no place in the world, your beauty or handsomeness doesn’t count.
“In the past years, what we gave to recipients is N50, 000, but we have now reviewed it to N75, 000 due to inflation occasioned by economic crunch “he said.
Ugbo urged youths from the zone to attach special importance to education so as to take the zone to the next level in the state as well as in the country.
“Even if you want to be groundnut seller, you must first be educated to excel more than others.
“This programme started in 2009 and since then many final year students with good cumulative grades from hundred levels, have benefited from the financial assistance of this body.
“One of the early beneficiaries, Mr. Sunday Asogwa who made fist class in mathematics from UNN is currently doing his masters in US”, he said.
He, however, expressed disappointment in the local government chairmen from the zone who have continued to shun programmes of the body since 2009.
“Almost every year during this award ceremony, Nsukka US usually invite chairmen from the zone but is unfortunate that none has shown any interest.
“To me this is an indication that none of the council chairmen in the zone attach much importance to the education of young people in the area” he said,
In his remark, the coordinator of ward in Nigeria, Mr. Charles Ugbo, said that every year applications were received from interested undergraduates from Nsukka, Igboeze-South, Igboeze-North, Igboetiti, Uzowani, Udenu and Isi-Uzo LGAs that made up Nsukka cultural zone, and best two final year students in each of the LGAs that have the highest cumulative Grade were selected for the financial assistance award.
He said very soon the award would be thrown open to all Nsukka final year students studying in universities across the county,
“Currently this award is only for final year students studying in UNN” he said.
Responding on behalf of other recipients, Miss Chizoba Ezea, Department of Agric Economic of Faculty of Education, expressed appreciation to indigenes of Nsukka in US for encouraging students from the zone to study harder.
“This financial assistance is making students from the zone to study harder so as to benefit from the financial assistance.
“What I have received today will have thrown more challenge to me as well as make to understand that there is great reward for hard work.
“My prayer is that Almighty God will bless Nsukka people in US as well as replenish their pocket in million fold” he said.
