Unknown epidemic kills 2000 cows in Nasarawa

Fear has gripped Fulani herdsmen in Nasarawa state over the on-going death of their over 2ooo cows have so far been reported dead by unknown epidemic.

Investigation by The Daily Times reviewed that the dead of the animals was witnessed immediately after the first downpour of the year in the state which took over 12 hours before it came to an end.

Speaking to our correspondent in Keana, headquarters of Keana local Government council, the Sarking Fulani of the locality, Haldo Sodangi, said that the unfortunate dead of their cattle commenced immediately after the over 12 hours down pour witnessed across the state recently.

The Haldo therefore lamented that within his house hold alone over 200 cows have so far died why many others are with a similar symptoms that could led to their death any moment.

He further solicited for release of materials to cushion the effect that has traumatized headsmen in the State as a result of the unprecedented death of their cows.

In the same vein, the Sarkin Fulani of the State, Haldo Dono Lawal, lamented the unfortunate incidentand called on appropriate authorities to resume inoculation of animals as the case used to be in the past to avert further occurrence of any outbreak of epidemic amongst livestock in the state.

Consequently, he appealed to the three tiers of government for intervention by way of diagnosing the cause of the unfortunate incident and proffered a solution to curtail the menace.

Hitherto, the Sarkin Fulani of the state suggested for an approval by the government to allow leaders of the headsmen to carry out a census of victims of their atrocities in order to forward same to relevant authorities for a possible compensation that would alleviate the suffering being experienced by such victims.
