UNIABUJA steps up security check on herdsmen incursion

The authorities of University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) said it has stepped up activities aimed at checkmating incessant incursion of herdsmen and their cattle into the university premises, which often leads to disruption of academic activities and infliction of harm on students.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Michael Umale Adikwu, who made the above declaration in Abuja while addressing newsmen as part of activities marking his three years in office, said he has already invited the leadership of the herdsmen to discuss how they can restrict their grazing to certain parts of the vast university land in such a manner that it will not cause further harm to academic activities.
Adikwu further hinted that he had already met with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Malam Mohammmad Bello, and other concerned local Government chairmen who promised about the plan to relocate the herdsmen to identified grazing areas including Pai area.
He further assured that the school authority is also interacting with security agencies with a view to deploying their personnel in strategic locations in the two campuses to enhance security.
Adikwu also dismissed the news making the rounds that the school has increased school fees, saying the story is unfounded as no form of fee in the institution has been increased. He said most of the courses offered by the institution have been accredited and that the Law department will soon commence admitting students with the approval granted by relevant authorities.
He said the institution is looking forward to tapping the assistance of its alumni bodies and that the recent election held by the union will further consolidate the Alumni system which every administration will fall back to.
On expectations on his two remaining years in office, the UNIABUJA boss promised to build strong structures, promote human capacity building that will produce quality staffing and increased Research activities with and regular payment of staff salaries.
