The Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA) has received a donation of a brand-new six-seater Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to ease transportation problems.

During the handover ceremony, the Executive Secretary of BSEMA, James Iorpuu, expressed his appreciation to the UNHCR for the donation of the operational vehicle, which he described as a lifeline to reach those who depend on BSEMA in times of crisis.

The Executive Secretary joyfully noted that the agency’s receipt of the specialized emergency response operation vehicle followed a request for the replacement of a damaged one, which occurred during an official visit to Jos, where it was damaged beyond repair. Iorpuu described the vehicle as “a tool for hope, a symbol of solidarity, and a tangible expression of UNHCR’s dedication to enhancing our emergency response capabilities.”

The BSEMA boss disclosed that the UNHCR had facilitated the recruitment of staff to manage not only the Cameroonian refugees at Ikyogen but also all the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in the state. He emphasized that partnership could transform challenges into opportunities, foster hope, and rebuild lives.
