Three feared killed, six injured in herdsmen fresh attack on Delta farmers

Three persons were feared killed in a renewed attack allegedly launched by Fulani herdsmen in Emuhu community, Ika South local government area of Delta, while six others sustained degrees of injuries.

It was gathered that the activities of the rampaging Fulani herdsmen operating in Ika South axis and in some parts of Edo state, had placed residents of the areas in perpetual fear.

Besides, the herdsmen have also reportedly taken over some farm lands.

A resident of Abavo, one of the communities in the LGA, David Silvia, told our reporter that the current horrendous activities of the Fulani herdsmen in the community, had been untold, particularly the alleged destruction of their farm crops.

“We are tired and sick of the herdsmen. They have virtually taken over our farmlands, raped our women and killed those who object to their activities,” the resident lamented.

In the early hours of on Monday, the people of Emuhu community took to the streets in the area, demanding the state government’s urgent intervention to their ordeals in the hands of the Fulani herdsmen who they described as “wicked, rapists and killers.”

The protesters displayed placards with different inscriptions: ‘Herdsmen must leave our community,’ ‘Enough of the destruction of our farm crops,’ ‘Stop raping our women, killing of our farmers,’ ‘We need Okowa to urgently intervene,’

Leader of the protesting group, Mr. Bright Umunede, alleged that the herdsmen had taken over their community’s faming lands, and have allegedly killed their farmers and raped their women.

One of the victims, Chuks Okoyen, who claimed to have been injured with a dagger, said “the herdsmen moved to us with their daggers, and we tried to defend ourselves, we saw guns with them and took to our heels. Three of us were however mauled down and are at the point of death.”

The state Police Commissioner, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim, confirmed that the police have arrested six suspected Fulani herdsmen in connection with the recent attack on the farmers, adding that investigation was ongoing.
